ARCHIRECTURE STEEPED IN HISTORY

Brick and mortar buildings in the current site of Užupio vartai formed starting mid-19th century. The archaeological research shows characteristics typical to the architecture of classicism, historicism and Soviet period. In order to preserve the architectural heritage, decorative façade elements, window style, columns and column capitals will be restored.

CONVENIENT LOCATION IN THE CITY

Užupio vartai is surrounded by some highly acclaimed cafes, gourmet shops, and artist studios. Just a few steps below, on the other side of the River Vilnia, there is the Bernardine Garden open and lively all year round. Convenient connection with the Old Town, the Railway/Bus Station and Olandų Street allows to avoid traffic congestion and to reach Užupio vartai quicker.

GREEN OASIS CLOSE TO HOME

Although Užupis is surrounded by nature on all sides, including the River Vilnia and the green river slopes, the main green zone of the area – Užupis Square – is located right in front of Užupio vartai.  This is a small park with a children’s playground and benches open all year round.

SAFE ENCLOSED COURTYARD

The courtyard enclosed by the walls on all sides will ensure a safe and peaceful recreation zone. The courtyard solely designated for pedestrian use will be paved and will contain benches and a playground. The green zone of the courtyard will provide a pleasant communal space.

HIGH QUALITY WOODEN WINDOW FRAMES

High quality wooden window frames will be used and the historical division of windows will be restored. Wooden window frames provide better heat insulation, help maintain moisture balance, suppress noise, and do not accumulate dust.

POSSIBILITY TO INSTALL A FIREPLACE

Depending on technical possibilities, an area for a fireplace can be provided including special chimneys. A fireplace is one of the main tributes of a classical interior.

UNDERGROUND PARKING

An underground parking has been designed and will be accessible via a lift or stairs. Entry for motor vehicles to the parking is planned from Polocko Street through the gateway. Wooden gates featuring historical motifs will be installed in the gateway.

STORAGE AREAS ON THE LOWER GROUND FLOOR

Secure, locked storage areas will be provided to the residents in the historical basement area. The basement architecture is subject to protection. Part of the basement area contains authentic vaults.

BUILDING WITH 4 LIFTS

The building will be equipped with 4 passenger lifts: 3 lifts in the U-shaped block and one (together with stairs) in the block located inside the courtyard. It will be possible to take a lift from the lower ground floor where the parking and storage area will be situated.

The video surveillance system with cameras in the courtyard, on the façades, the main entrance, and parking will ensure security of the residents of Užupio vartai.
